Police are looking for the owner of a gun that was found abandoned in a toilet at a popular club in Nairobi’s South B area.
A reveler who had gone to the toilet after the believed owner had left stumbled on it and raised alarm by alerting security of the bar.
Makadara OCPD Tom Atuti said they had sent details of the weapon to the chief firearms licensing office for verification.
“We believe the owner went and placed it on the lid and finished his business there and forgot to pick it up. None has so far come to claim it but we are looking into the case,” said Atuti.
The discovery of the weapon caused panic at the popular club before police arrived to pick it up. Atuti said if and when they find the owner, he or she will be charged in court with a criminal offence.
Meanwhile, a gang carjacked and robbed passengers of a matatu along Mombasa Road in Nairobi in an attack. The matatu was headed for Imara Daima estate when some of the passengers turned out to be thugs and commandeered the minibus into a slum where they robbed passengers of their cash and valuables.
Witnesses told police the armed men issued orders for the driver to heed their instructions. They then robbed the over 30 passengers of their mobile phones and about Sh29,000 before they abandoned them in Mukuru slums.
Atuti said none was injured in the incident and that the gang escaped on foot soon after the robbery.
Elsewhere in the city, three suspects were killed in separate incidents in botched robberies. The first suspected carjacker was shot dead by police in Kariobangi area and a victim of the incident rescued.
The deceased was part of a gang that had carjacked a motorist and was escaping with the car when police were alerted.
