The battle for the last slot in the final of this year’s cricket Samsung Cup is expected to intensify as the tournament enters week three Sunday.
Leaders Coast Super Kings, who have a match at hand, have already secured a berth in the final set for July 8 at Simba Union Club.
Coast Super Kings lead the series with 35 points are followed by Masai Mara Tuskers with 21 points after registering one win and a loss.
Rift Valley Challengers are third with 21 points, same as Masai Mara Tuskers. Rift Valley Challengers are fifth, while Mount Kenya Chargers are last with six points after two losses.
Masai Mara Tuskers will be hoping to overcome Mount Kenya Chargers in the first week three encounter to increase their chances of making it to the finals. Second-placed Masai Mara Tusker have better net run rate should they tie in points with any other team.
Tricky situation
But the equation would change should Mount Kenya Chargers prevail over their opponents Masai Mara Tuskers who will have to wait for the outcome of the match between leaders Coast Super Kings and Rift Valley Challengers to be played later on Sunday to know their fate.
Rift Valley Challengers are in a tricky situation, as they must beat Coast Super Kings with better net run rate to reach the finals.
Besides, they have to get full 20 points, but this will also depend on the mathematics of the match result between Masai Mara Tuskers and Mount Kenya Chargers.
Mount Kenya Chargers, who have lost both their games, will need a miracle to advance to the finals.
They have to beat Masai Mara Tuskers with full 20 points and with better net run rate. Besides, they will pray that Coast Super Kings beat Rift Valley Challengers by a bigger margin.
