Without a national policy, peace building efforts can’t yield much

The policy proposes creation of a Mediation Support Unit that will provide and coordinate mediation and preventive diplomacy capacity to Kenya and its neighbouring states.

While involvement of security agencies is vital to end some conflict, prevention of conflict cannot be left to security forces alone.

Government must come up with inclusive, creative and proactive programs to address the root causes of conflict especially during this electioneering period.

Indeed, participation and effective involvement of the public in peace building process could bolster government’s peace and security initiatives. To achieve sustainable peace and avoid perennial conflict in our country, we need a peace and conflict management policy.
