Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has sacked the national soccer team head coach Francis Kimanzi and given him the position of FKF Technical director.
The National Executive Commitee (NEC) after a meeting held Tuesday atfernoon resolved to disband the entire technical bench of Harambee Stars with immediate effect.
In an effort to save face, the federation that has been under pressure from local soccer lovers to act on Harambee Stars’ dismal show in the World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations qualifier matches. The team has been running a string of losses.
Kimanzi found the sacking letter ready only moments after he touched down at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on arrival from Lome Togo.
Harambee Star’s hopes of qualifying for the 2013 Cup of Nations ended on Sunday after they lost 1-0 to the Sparrow Hawks in Lome Togo.
The change of guard brings to an end the reign of Kimanzi at the helm since November 1 2011 when he took over from Zedekiah Otieno Zico.
Earlier, upon arrival Kimanzi had scoffed at suggestions that he should be fired insisting that he had a contractual agreement with the FKF.
The federation has relegated him technical director’s duties with the coach’s docket now remaining vacant. Patrick Naggi who was technical director has been demoted to a less flamboyant post of executive officer.
