A man was hacked to death and a woman seriously injured by thugs in Bahati area, Changwamwe, on Monday morning.

The two were discovered by people going to the market. Witnesses say the woman lay bleeding profusely only a few metres from the body of a man.

Although there were claims that the deceased was the owner of a nearby shop, Changamwe OCPD Otieno Awuor said the man could be one of the suspects who broke into the shop and was later killed by locals.

Awuor said he suspected that one of the suspects who fled could have come across the injured woman and hacked her while fleeing the lynch mob.

“What I know is that the complainant who was sleeping inside his shop heard strange noises as if someone was breaking in and he raised alarm and members of the public responded,” said Awuor.

The woman is said to be mentally challenged and has been seen roaming around the locality and sleeping on the streets.

There has been a series of murders in Changamwe that remain unsolved. On May 20, two suspected motorbike thieves were lynched by boda boda operators.
