Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers ( Kuppet) has rejected the gazzeted Teachers Service Commission Bill saying it had been doctored. Kuppet now wants Members of Parliament to reject the Bill when tabled before the House for debate.
Kuppet national chairman Omboko Milemba said the Bill, which has already been gazetted was doctored and should be rejected by Parliament, as it does not represent teachers' welfare.
Addressing the Press in Kakamega town Sunday Mr Milemba asked the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Mosop MP David Koech to mobilise MPs to reject the Bill and push for amendments on the document.
"The gazetted document was not the original paper discussed with the Commission for Implementation of the Constitution (CIC) and teachers," he added.
“This is a warped Bill that directly contravenes the provisions of the new constitution, it does not have anything on devolution, the teachers appeal tribunal is missing among many other flaws, we are not going to accept it at all,” he said.
Milemba said that key terms in the need to be made clear to avoid future misunderstanding within the teaching profession.
“We have terms such as sexual Intercourse, interdiction just to name a few that have serious implications for teachers unless defined well,” he asserted.
The union said they are conducting cluster workshops countrywide to sensitise their members on areas of concern in other Bills that touch on education set to be debated on the floor of the House.
Among them include the already gazetted Education Bill, The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) Bill, The University
Bill.
