Four suspected thugs were Saturday night shot dead in separate attempted robberies in Nairobi and weapons recovered from them.

Police said the slain suspects who are aged between 18 and 25 were all caught in attempted robberies and were armed at the time of the incidents.

Two of the victims were killed in Dandora area after they tried to carjack a matatu that was headed to the estate.

According to witnesses, apparently some of the passengers in the matatu were police officers. One of the officers on board swung into action as the gang of four commandeered the matatu into a slum and forced them off.

Nairobi Area police boss Anthony Kibuchi said the officer chased and managed to kill two of the suspects while the other accomplices escaped on foot.

He added they recovered a pistol loaded with three bullets from the gang before the bodies were moved to the mortuary.

The third suspect was killed in Kibera slums in another botched robbery and a gun found on him. The man is said to have been in the company of three others and were mugging residents when police were alerted.

The fourth suspect was killed in Soweto area in a botched robbery in a house. Kibuchi said the suspect and two others had broken into a house and were busy terrorizing occupants when alarm was raised. All the bodies were taken to the mortuary.

“Unfortunately all the men were young. Crime does not pay,” said Kibuchi.

In Tasia estate, two suspects dropped a gun as they escaped from police in an attempted robbery. No arrest was made but police say they are hunting down the suspects.
