While alcohol has become a major challenge to youth, Cecilia Mwangi reveals to G-PANGE Pulse writer ROSE KWAMBOKA how she has kept away from it
The glow and softness of her skin is unmistakable. What’s her secret? From her repertoire of ideas and tips, the one that stands out is that she keeps off alcohol and any other form of drug abuse.
Beauty queen Cecilia Mwangi observed that even that glass of wine adds no value to her life. The anti-jigger campaigner thinks drinking is overrated, and that is why at times the youth find it hard to keep off.
“With most radio stations giving hangout plots every Friday, and making hangovers look cool on Mondays, it is not hard to see why most youth are immersed into drinking,” she says.
Does this mean that she misses out on the fun? The sober answer is ‘No’.
She has made it clear to her friends and colleagues by word and through her actions that she does not intend to drink in the near future.
“When we go out with the girls, they know I can buy anything but alcohol, and they respect that,” she adds.
She insists that there is nothing cool about having a hangover.
“You are dehydrated and it shows on your dry skin and chapped lips, and you are barely productive. To add to an unproductive day, you just spend your hard earned money to end up with Monday blues.”
As a way of dealing with exams, boredom, stress and other pressures of life, she says that alcohol is not the answer.
“It is all in one’s mind,” she notes.
According to Cecilia, if one has friends who lead them to drinking, maybe it’s time they made a decision and let go off them.
