A senior detective from Nairobi, Mohamed Amin has taken over investigations into the death of a son of a British aristocrat who died in police custody in Diani on May 19.

Amin who heads the Investigations Bureau at the Criminal Investigations Department headquarters is leading a team of five detectives who have already interrogated officers who handled Alexander Martin Monson when he was arrested and taken to Palm Beach Hospital after he allegedly fell ill in Diani Police Station cells.

Police claim they caught the deceased smoking bhang (cannabis sativa).

An autopsy report has indicated that Monson died because of blunt trauma to his head and scrotum.

The deceased’s father, Mr. Baron Nicholas has claimed that his son died because of police violence or some form of medical negligence.

He has also accused Diani police of staging an investigation to cover their mistakes in the matter.
