Suspected terrorists hurled grenades at construction workers and revelers in separate attacks in Dadaab refugee camp and Wajir on Saturday night and injured at least eight people.

Five builders were attacked at a school under construction at Ifo refugee camp while three others were slightly injured in a hotel in Wajir Town.

“Those of the Ifo attack were all casual labourers working at a primary school doing construction,” said Leo Nyongesa, North Eastern PPO.

Nyongesa said that a second blast at a hotel in Wajir, popular with government officials, had wounded at least one person.

The hotel in Wajir is on a road leading to a military camp, and is close to a government club that was also attacked in 2011.

Grenade and improvised explosive device (IED) attacks in Kenya have become more frequent since troops were sent troops to Somalia to pursue al Shabaab insurgents it blames for a wave of kidnappings in 2011.
